DC Dance Center is a place for children to build a strong foundation in dance and theatre

in a non-threatening, supportive environment.  Our classes are designed to enhance your child’s physical, mental, and emotional development while encouraging a sense of self esteem and self confidence

that your child will carry with them for the rest of their lives.

 

Dance classes are directed and taught by Ms. Diane Collins and her staff of well qualified instructors.  

DC Dance Center’s loving and supportive staff takes pride in their work and wants to instill a love for the arts that will last a life time for every child!

We now offer easy online class enrollment!  

  • All Families must first complete the "New Family Registration". (Click link above)  

  • Once registered, please log into our Parent Portal to enroll your student.  

  • Use the Class Type, Level & Day to filter our class lists and easily find the right classes for your student.

  • Regular Class Sessions begin in September and continue through June.

  • Class days and times are subject to change.  

Tiny Tutu's

ages 2.5-3.5

This class is designed for our youngest dancers, introducing them to movement through musical games, songs and dances.  Our goal is to have FUN while developing large motor skills, listening skills, body awareness and imagination.  

This class is independent of parent/guardian.  

Pre-Ballet

ages 3.5-5

This class develops coordination, listening, and rhythm skills through an introduction to ballet and movement. Children must have a good attention span and be independent of parent/guardian.

Ballet/Tap

Elementary

ages 5-8

The dancers will study the elementary steps

and concepts of ballet and tap.

The class is divided into half-hour segments of ballet and tap.

No experience required.

Ballet, Tap, Jazz

intermediate

ages 5-8

The class will study ballet, tap or jazz technique in a more structured dance environment for the serious student.  Emphasis in this class is on strengthening body placement, coordinating body movements, and improving basic steps. Dress code and attendance are enforced to promote the best training. Placement is made at the discretion of the program director and faculty and is based on your child's ability and level. All decisions are made by professionals and are with your child's best interest in mind.  *Jazz classes at these levels must be accompanied with a ballet class.

JAZZ

ages 7-10

hIP hOP

ages 6 AND UP

These high-energy dance fitness programs incorporate the latest of jazz, funk and hip-hop styles of today and yesterday. Hip Hop is a popular urban youth culture style of dance that provides a funkier edge to the basic styles of dance. These programs are suggested for dancers who like to move quickly, exercise and have FUN!

**Placement in Intermediate and Advanced Classes is at the recommendation of Ms. Diane and the DC Dance Center staff.

INTERMEDIATE

BALLET

Prior ballet experience is required.

This class will focus on classical ballet technique through a professional class progression. Barre work, center and across the floor exercises are designed to better your technique, as well as performance quality and confidence. 

INT/Advanced

BALLET/Pointe

This class is designed to provide students with an opportunity to continue their pursuit of the classical ballet technique with an emphasis on technical development and extended movement combinations.   In this class, students will work on their performance qualities, musicality and artistry; fundamentals of pointe work and theory will be studied throughout the semester in preparation for the advanced ballet technique level. 

Advanced ballet/pointe

This class is for dancers who have been on pointe for three+ years and the class requires Director’s permission.  Dancers will continue to build strength and learn steps specific to pointe dancing as well as steps done either on half or three-quarter pointe or full pointe.  Dancers will work extensively with turns, traveling combinations, and adagio reaching an advanced level.

INTERMEDIATE

jAzz

This class continues to focus on jazz dance and musicality. Class format consists of a warm-up to enhance core strengthening, balance, and extensions through isolations, rhythmic exercises, and floor stretches. Students study jazz technique, and learn to build complex combinations and routines. Class includes across the floor patterns, short dance combos.

Advanced Jazz /

Contemporary jazz

This Advance class combines Jazz techniques with Modern, free form movement.  It is filled with very technical dance moves that are very visual yet focus on the musicality of the dancer.

It is an ever-changing style of dance that continues to evolve.

Jazz experience and recommendation by Director/Faculty is required.

Intermediate lyrical/

Modern Jazz

Lyrical dance is primary basis in ballet, combining the many technical elements of classical ballet with the freedom and aspects of jazz, contemporary and modern dance. Lyrical dance is expressive, focused on conveying musicality and emotion through movement. It is a combination of intricate, highly technical, and pedestrian/naturalistic moves. It is commonly set to popular music with vocals as well as rich instrumental portions of a pop song.

advanced lyrical/ Modern Jazz

This class continues to build on the Intermediate level, adding more precise, controlled movement, lifts, and more complex movements and patterns.

Director/ Faculty recommendation is required.

Acro

Ages 9 & up

This class works on basic acrobatics technique including beginning to advance tumbling, conditioning, flexibility, proper form and strengthening. The class will build week to week with new exercises and learning basic gymnastic skills to incorporate

into dance sequence.

Yoga

$20 per class
